Dr. Kishor Wasan

Dr. Kishor M. Wasan is an Associate Dean of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Co-Founder of the Neglected Global Diseases Initiative at the University of British Columbia. In his 17 years as an independent researcher, Dr. Wasan excelled in the area of lipid-based drug delivery and lipoprotein-drug interactions; his work was showcased in 2008 Nature Reviews, and he was awarded the 2007 AAPS Award for Outstanding Research. For his contributions, Dr. Wasan was presented the Canadian Society of Pharmaceutical Sciences Leadership Award in May 2011.
One of Dr. Wasan`s most recent projects is the breakthrough development of orally-formulated amphotericin B for the treatment of Visceral Leishmaniasis, a deadly parasitic disease prevalent in several developing countries. As part of the Neglected Global Diseases Initiative, and in cooperation with iCo Therapeutics, Dr. Wasan aims to make his innovation affordable and accessible to those most deeply affected.
Ultimately, pharmacy is a caring profession, a quality that is clearly manifested in Dr. Wasan`s research principles. At PDW 2014, Dr. Wasan will challenge students to explore the humanitarian face of pharmacy
