Speaker Panels

Patient Panel: Improving mental healthcare delivery by pharmacists

Four patients who have suffered from mental illness discuss how their various conditions have impacted their lives, giving students a chance to experience life in their shoes. The panelists will discuss their experiences with the healthcare system, and examples of when their needs as patients were and were not fully met. This will transition into a discussion of how pharmacists can fill gaps in mental healthcare delivery in the future, including how pharmacists can form interprofessional alliances to smooth the patient experience in the healthcare system. Students will be given an opportunity to ask questions and form an interactive discussion with the panelists.

Pharmacy Panel: Improving employability of future pharmacists

As the role of pharmacists across the nation begins to shift, a group of pharmacists who come from a wide variety of backgrounds will come together to share their own experiences from their careers. Discussion will focus on the types of employment the panelists foresee for future pharmacists, including a shift in focus from treatment to prevention and increased emphasis on interprofessional collaboration. The feasibility of implementing these changes in various settings will be questioned and discussed, and panelists will be asked to share meaningful skills and experiences they feel current pharmacy students can accrue to improve their employability in the changing workforce.
